Karachi, August, 2016: Dr. Ruth Pfau, founder of Marie Adelaide Leprosy Centre (MALC), on a special invitation from Faysal Bank Limited (FBL), visited Faysal House together with her senior faculty members. Mr. Nauman Ansari, President & CEO of Faysal Bank Limited, received them with warmth. On this occasion, Head Human Resources, Mr. M. Merajuddin Ahmed, and Head HR Advisory, Learning & CSR/IC, Ms. Rabia Salahuddin, were also present from Faysal Bank.
FBL has been closely working for about half a decade with MALC in their project of Tuberculosis Control in Gilgit Baltistan. MALC has established medical units in Kharmong, Rondu, Shigar, Skardu, etc., where lots of patients with TB have been successfully treated.
At the meeting, Dr. Ruth Pfau not only talked on the MALC’s landmark achievements in Pakistan but also liberally covered the scope of their vast medical services through more than 160 control centres for leprosy, blindness, tuberculosis, disability, rehabilitation programs, etc. She said, “If we improve our education and socio-economic conditions along with poverty alleviation, just through awareness programs, serious diseases can be avoided by taking precautionary steps.” She also added that, “Socially responsible corporate organisations like Faysal Bank are rendering a pivotal performance to help the welfare organizations bring relief to the marginalized segment in the country.” She truly appreciated their time, financial assistance, and cooperation.
Mr. Nauman Ansari, President & CEO while presenting a donation cheque to Dr. Ruth Pfau said, “Pakistan is really a blessed country where we have genuine role models like Dr. Ruth Pfau whose altruism and commitment to serve humanity is truly not only commendable but legendary.”
The officials from both the organisations resolved to work together for the projects helping the local community live a better and healthy life.
MALC is working for Leprosy elimination, TB and Blindness control and Community Development for the last 56 years. It is a nonprofit, non-sectarian organization registered under the Societies Act. A well-knitted network of 160 control centres nationwide mostly in remote areas is functioning in close collaboration with provincial governments and providing services to the patients and communities free of charge.
