POWER8 processor-based technology and new Storage systems will allow enterprise class reliability with increased flexibility

KARACHI, Pakistan – 09 April, 2015: Faysal Bank Limited is one of the leading bank in Pakistan has recently signed an agreement with IBM (NYSE: IBM) to enhance the bank’s cloud and to tailors its infrastructure through implementation of POWER8 processor-based servers and storage systems. This technology not only provides FBL’s customers quicker service times but also increases reliability.

“This technology upgrade will help the Bank handle future growth, enhance its operational efficiencies as it embarks on a new strategic direction, developing growth plans and strategies for new markets, products and service, reduction in overall hardware deployed, increased utilization and return on investment”, stated Nauman Ansari, President and CEO, Faysal Bank Limited.

By the help of this technology, IBM will equip Faysal Bank with a dynamic hybrid cloud environment, the capability of managing on and off premise cloud technology, offering enterprise class reliability, increasing flexibility to respond, changing workloads and conditions, reducing power consumption and data centre floor space and ultimately resulted in reducing systems administration and cost.

The proposed server solution will also provide Faysal Bank a complete technology refresh with higher performance. Additionally, it will provide a complete disaster recovery setup to cater for all production workloads. This means that the data recovery site will be able to host all production workloads in case of a disaster.

IBM’s proposed solution comes with Enterprise Pools, which enables the aggregation of resources, including processors and memory, across another system of the same family as per workload requirement. The servers also have the ability to provide capacity on demand.

This new system also supports processor movements (along with the operating system and hypervisor licenses) and transfers memory from one system to another of the same server family across sites. In addition, the infrastructure will reduces the operating expenses in terms of licensing, power, cooling and data center costs.
